Presidents can become his own director of communications. Multiple legal cases that could affect the messaging strategy. And Cabinet Secretaries who have been involved in controversy. Schlapp has managed to stay focused and on task and work with White House teams in political affairs and legislative affairs, along with the wider communications team. In her current position she's been focusing on several topics, including safety at schools as well as opioid abuse. Her interactions with journalists aren't very much in her present role. She gained attention in the wake of being announced as an option to succeed Hope Hicks, the communications director. Mercedes Schlapp does not have a straightforward job as White House strategic communication adviser. It's not an easy task to have Mercedes Schlapp as the White House's strategy communications advisor. She has to contend with numerous challenges, for instance as being the President's communications director, and acts as his director of communications. Yet, through all of it Schlapp remains focussed on the task at hand, working closely with the White House's policy as well as legislative affairs and policy shops as as the broader communications operation for policy-related rollouts. The focus of her work has been on areas such as school safety, opioids and infrastructure, along with trade. The current position she holds doesn't require much contact with reporters. It was in March that she was the subject of a sudden surge in interest, after it was known that Schlapp would be the next candidate to replace Hope Hicks's post as director of communication. This fight was ugly. Allies to Schlapp and Tony Sayegh another candidate for the position, began jousting in the media. Following The Washington Examiner published a negative report on Sayegh Schlapp said she called the candidate to be relationship with her.
